I wasn't.
In fact, I was the worst rep when I started in sales. I struggled to have any sort of success.
I struggled booking appointments and even if I could book an appointment... the sales call was like a train wreck.
I went 7 weeks without closing a single deal while all my peers were having decent success. The worst part was that I was literally outworking them all... with the HIGHEST activity numbers on all the dashboards... with nothing to show for it.

Imposter syndrome set in hard. I was completely second-guessing myself for even going into sales.
I blamed my manager for not training me, the looming Recession, the lack of training, the bad territory, poor marketing, lack of leads and more.
The stress overwhelmed me. I stopped eating healthy and working out. I started to gain weight.
My terrible results also made me moody and grumpy with even my loved ones and friends.
I knew in my heart that this frustrated them as they never knew "which version" of Marcus I was going to be.
I felt disgusted and disappointed with this version of myself especially since I had never felt this level of failure before. I didn't think I could feel even worse.
Then my manager asked me to come into his office at 4 PM on a Friday afternoon. He threatened me with a PIP and told me if I didn't figure it out soon, I'll be fired. This made me even more depressed and frustrated. I had never felt this low.
I felt like I was letting my girlfriend down, my parents, HER parents. But worst of all? I was letting myself down.
I felt disgusted and disappointed with this version of myself especially since I had never felt this level of failure before. I didn't think I could feel even worse.

I felt like I was letting my girlfriend down, my parents, HER parents. But worst of all? I was letting myself down.
That’s when I decided enough was enough. I knew that if I didn’t change, nothing would change.
As cheesy as it was, I had been reading Tony Robbin’s books and felt inspired by him.
It felt like a small shining light in the mental darkness and anguish I was living in.
I knew he had an upcoming event in California, Unleash the Power Within, but I was scared because I couldn’t afford it on my $29,500 base salary.
It would be around $8000 all in for the ticket level I wanted and travel costs.
But I also knew that the BEST version of myself would invest in my future.
So if I wanted to become the best version of Marcus?
I’d have to act as if I was ALREADY that person and make decisions like him too.
So I pulled the trigger and put it on my credit card.
The anxiety deepened after I clicked “submit” but I committed to myself that I’d make it back as fast as humanly possible.
The next weekend I attended the event…
And it completely shifted how I thought about life and peak performance.
I started to operate at a whole new level.
I started to invest time and money into sales courses, coaches, and conferences.
Within 3 months of being in sales, I became #1.
I stayed #1 for 9 more months earning two promotions during that time.
I had almost 10X’ed my initial investment.
Fast forward 12 more years and I ended up staying in B2B sales. And I feel fortunate as I achieved some cool things as a result:
Promoted 12X in 8 years at two Fortune 500 companies
Hit and exceeded quota up to 250% for 13 consecutive years
